# Working with cases

> File a case, add your records, read the award and confirm payment.

**1. File the case**

`POST /v1/cases` with both parties, the amount (up to the rules' claim limit), the category and your transaction record. Rubicourt assigns an arbitrator at random and emails each party a link to its case page.

**2. Add your records**

`POST /v1/cases/{id}/evidence` attaches files as platform records. Parties file their own statements and evidence on their case pages, or you can submit a party's statement with `POST /v1/cases/{id}/statements`.

**3. Follow the stages**

Webhooks: `case.created`, `case.stage_changed`, `case.award_issued`, `case.appeal_filed`, `case.closed`.

**4. Read the award**

`GET /v1/cases/{id}/award` returns the award and any appeal decision. `binding` is the one in force, and `net_cents` says who pays whom. `GET /v1/cases/{id}/award/pdf` downloads the signed PDF.

**5. Confirm payment**

Payment is due 30 days after the award is final. If you pay it, for example from escrow, call `POST /v1/cases/{id}/payment` with `{"status": "paid"}`. You receive `case.award_paid`.
