# Arbitration overview

> Binding small-claims arbitration with a licensed attorney arbitrator.

Arbitration produces an award a court can enforce. Use it directly for disputes your terms send to arbitration, or let Resolve escalate to it.

* **Who decides:** a licensed attorney with 10+ years of practice, or a retired judge. They are drawn at random and paid the same flat fee whatever the outcome.
* **How:** online, on documents. Any individual who asks for a hearing gets one, by video or phone.
* **AI:** used only if both sides agree, and only to summarize filings and draft reasons after the arbitrator has decided. Appeals use no AI.
* **Timing:** answer within 14 days, reply within 7 days, a 3-day summary check, then the award within 10 business days. About five weeks in all.
* **Appeal:** once, to a different, senior arbitrator, within 14 days.
* **Fees:** flat, $100 to $450 per case by amount. An individual pays at most \$50.

The full procedure is in the published [Rubicourt Arbitration Rules](https://rubicourt.com/rules). Every award states the version it applied.
